The publication accompanying the exhibition organized by the Russian Museum presents the oeuvre of Marc Chagall in St Petersburg. The book contains articles by the Russian Museum main specialists on the creative oeuvre of the artist and evidence on Chagall’s connections with Russia after his departure. The publication includes fragments of the correspondence between Marc Chagall and an artist, a journalist and a collector M. Gordeyev published in Russian for the first time; the introduction to the first catalogue of the Musee national Message Biblique Marc Chagall, Nice and the artist’s biography. The colour plates introduce almost all works of the exhibition given in chronological order (1908-73), the major part of which the viewers will see for the first time. The publication reproduces the photographs from the family private archive unknown to the public.
The catalogue is issued with the support of OAO Severstal.
