Russian Art of the Second Half of the XIX Century
Permanent exhibition
Even when it first opened back in 1898, the Russian Museum owned many canvases painted by such masters of the second half of the nineteenth century as Ivan Aivazovsky, Konstantin Makovsky, Ilya Repin, Vasily Polenov and Vasily Surikov. Although the selection of works before the revolution was often hampered by the conservative tastes of museum officialdom, the collection nevertheless grew in breadth thanks to the efforts of Alexander Benois, Albert Benois, Igor Grabar and Pyotr Neradovsky.

The exhibition dedicated to the 350th anniversary of the birth of the first Russian Emperor Peter the Great will feature works by B.M. Kustodiev and M.V. Dobuzhinsky, connected with the decoration of the Great City College House named after Peter the Great in St. Petersburg (1910-1911).
To See the Invisible... for the 50th Anniversary of the Department of Technological Research

The title of the exhibition dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Department of Technological Research reflects the essence of its work: to study what, how, when and by whom certain works were created. The exposition gives an idea of what results such research methods as microscopy, radiography, study in the infrared and ultraviolet regions of the spectrum, X-ray fluorescence analysis can bring.
Permanent exhibition
The collection of the museum comprises works of the representatives of large schools that existed in Soviet times (e.g., Leningrad school of landscape painting of the 1930s - 1950s). The art of socialist realism, showing high artistic merit, clarity of plot, a tendency for "grand style", is reflected in the paintings by A.A. Deyneka, A.N. Samokhvalov, A.A. Plastov, Yu.I. Pimenov and many other Soviet artists who continued to work during the Great Patriotic War and in the second half of the XX century.

Mikhail Vrubel. To the 165th Anniversary of the Artist

The exhibition dedicated to the 165th anniversary of Mikhail Aleksandrovich Vrubel (1856-1910) will present the main stages of the path of one of the leading masters of Russian art. Like the titans of the Renaissance, the artist was richly gifted. His creative pursuits and achievements were far ahead of his time. Portraits of contemporaries and landscapes created by him, works inspired by Russian and ancient mythology and classical literature, are marked by high spirituality.
Permanent exhibition
On 26 May 2005 the Mineral Study in the Stroganov Palace was opened after restoration and recreation of interiors. The study was designed by Andrei Voronikhin in 1791-92. It was considered as one of the masterpieces of Russian architecture of the 18th century.

The main goal of the exhibition is to present the local features of patchwork in numerous centers of folk art in Russia and to show the original creative style of individual masters of the 20th century. The exhibition introduces the viewer to the truly folk patchwork, which was developed not in creative units and clubs, but in the villages and small towns of Russia.

The Biennale of Historical and Archival Photography once again presents inaccessible photo collections of regional museums. The exhibition will show 144 photographs from museums in Voronezh, Ivangorod, Nizhny Novgorod, Rybinsk, Ryazan, Simferopol, Omsk, Pskov, Uglich, Yakutsk. The exposition is structured as a consistent story about the cultural, everyday and political life of Russia in the 1870s - 1930s.
