The exhibition timed to the bicentenary of Grand Duchess Elena Pavlovna (1806 - 1873), wife of Grand Duke Mikhail Pavlovich, younger son of Paul I, proprietress of the Mikhailovsky Palace, joins in the memorial space of the palace rooms documents and artworks, connected with this remarkable woman. Elena Pavlovna was the contemporary of the prominent men of letters, artists, musicians, academic politicians, which portraits are introduced at the exhibition. The exhibition presents the artworks from the Collection of the Russian Museum: views of the Mikhailovsky Palace, depictions of the members of the family of Elena Pavlovna, portraits of the historical figures from the nearest midst of the Grand Duchess. In the context of her biography they became not only the artworks, but also the historical documents. Part of miniature portraits of Elena Pavlovna from the Russian Museum Fund are presented for the first time. The exhibition comprises the exhibits from the collection of the State Archive of the Russian Federation, Saint Petersburg State Theater of Dramatic and Musical Art and Saint Petersburg State Mining Institute. The multimedia film 'Grand Duchess Elena Pavlovna. The Portrait on the Background of the Epoch' was created for the exhibition. The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue in Russian. The exhibition was financially supported by Lukoil Oil Refinery.

The exhibition is devoted to Irina Boguslavskaya (1929–2021), one of the leading researchers of folk art, Doctor of Art History, Honoured Art Worker of the RSFSR. From 1963 to 2019, she headed the Folk Art Department of the Russian Museum. The exhibition features a variety of items related to Irina Boguslavskaya’s research activities, many artworks, such as items of peasant everyday life, handicrafts etc.

The anniversary exhibition of “Karl the Great”. Karl Brullov needs no special introduction. He was the only Russian classical artist of the 19th century who gained fame in Europe in his lifetime and worldwide recognition after his death. He certainly had natural gift for painting. Moreover, he was a highly qualified professional of brilliant and fascinating personality. Only Brullov was honoured with a kind of title “Karl the Great” that showed the appreciation and admiration of his colleagues, art connoisseurs, and students during his lifetime.
